Claude Code’s top enterprise users outspend other Claude users 20 to 1, Anthropic’s IPO filing says

An engineer noted, "I've been building one project a week with Claude Code, and I hardly know what I'm doing," highlighting the tangible velocity potential.

Anthropic's impending Nasdaq listing centers its enterprise growth narrative around Claude Code, according to its S-1 filing. This document reveals that the top 5% of Enterprise users utilizing Claude Code spend roughly 20 times more than the average Claude Enterprise user, who spent under $75 monthly in the third quarter.

The S-1 prospectus outlines a classic land-and-expand strategy, with Claude Code serving as the initial entry point. Once an engineer adopts and utilizes Claude Code internally, the sales team later engages, finding that, as the filing states, "Claude is often already in use."

Anthropic views Claude Code as "the product we believe has most concretely defined what autonomous AI work looks like," noting its adoption extends beyond technical teams. Revenue figures support this trajectory: as of September 30, 2026, the company had over 11,900 customers paying $100,000 or more, up from more than 950 the prior year.

The impact on internal development is substantial. The filing reports that Claude generated more than 90% of contributions to Anthropic's codebase in September. Furthermore, the average engineer reportedly produced over 45 times more code daily in the third quarter compared to 2024.

Beyond its coding utility, Anthropic is strategically positioning itself by selling the software that runs Claude Code to external developers. The S-1 clarifies that "A model alone is not an agent," allowing developers to run Anthropic's harness via the Agent SDK or opt for Claude Managed Agents.

The S-1 names Google and OpenAI as the primary competitors in the frontier models space, while listing Claude Code among critical internal tools, warning that product issues "could directly impair our ability to develop and deploy future models."

Dario Amodei stated that the company's public call to pace the frontier might have resulted in losing an AI lead. Anthropic plans to list under the ticker ANT, though the filing did not specify a price range.
