DigitalOcean Launches Learning and Data Services to Enable Self-Improving AI Agents
DigitalOcean has unveiled the public preview of Learning Services and Agent Data Services, empowering developers to refine and evaluate AI agents within a single, AI-native cloud environment.
These new offerings build upon DigitalOcean's existing Inference Engine and Managed Agents, allowing agents to learn from real-world interactions, pinpoint deficiencies, test enhancements, and utilize proprietary company data, the company states.
Learning Services integrates three core functions: Insights, which chronicles agent activity; Signals, designed to flag performance gaps and failures; and Simulations, which tests potential upgrades via realistic conversations before deployment.
The enhanced Inference Router, though separate from Learning Services, plays a vital role in the continuous agent improvement strategy. It balances cost against quality, optimizes model selection based on task needs, and re-runs evaluations against new model versions.
Agent Data Services establishes a secure, managed repository for AI agents. It indexes various data types—including logs, video, audio, documents, and agent sessions—making this information searchable via a unified catalog complete with governance and access controls.
Jonathan Saring, co-founder of LakeOps, noted on LinkedIn: "The write-back loop is the part I find most interesting. Once traces, tool calls and outcomes feed evaluation or learning, they stop being 'just logs' and become production data."
Deepanshu Udhwani, a senior engineer, added that the logging of outcomes is often overlooked compared to the retrieval side of agent data layers. He pointed out that many teams build retrieval systems but fail to log outcomes properly, leaving users unable to determine which tool calls truly succeeded months later.
Keith Zhai, co-founder of TinyFish, highlighted how Signals and Simulations can convert a problematic user session into a solution before many other users experience the same hurdle. He stated, "Signals and Simulations pull that session into a fix before the four-hundredth person hits the same wall."
DigitalOcean Insights, Signals, and Evaluations, which includes Simulations, are currently in public preview. Meanwhile, Inference Router optimization and Agent Data Services are accessible in private preview.
